Work to create ridges
Effects of the creation of ridges on cultivation

The creation of ridges can have the following effects.

  1. Promotes rising ground temperatures.
The greater surface area of soil exposed to sunlight induces rising ground temperatures and promotes the initial growth of crops.
  2. Water drainage and soil-drying effects are enhanced.
Roots are allowed to grow vigorously and root rot can be prevented. In addition, the growth of roots is promoted as roots seek out moisture.
  3. Crop plants spread their roots and grow more effectively.
Growth is promoted thanks to the increased surface area of the zone into which the roots of each crop plant spread.
  4. Permeability is improved.
Improved permeability associated with a greater surface area exposed to air promotes growth.
Types of ridges

You should create ridges in lines that run in an east-west direction to enable vegetable crops to benefit from suitable exposure to sunlight. Since the optimal width of each ridge and the optimal distance between ridges differ depending on the type of vegetable crop being grown, you should make sure that the type of ridge is right for the vegetable crop in question.

Ridges measure approx. 5-10 centi-meters in height; suitable for land with good water drainage.

Ridges measure approx. 15-30centimeters in height; suitable for producing fields suffering from poor water drainage.

This ridge form is suitable for planting seedlings.

Ridge-creating options

Various optional attachments used to create ridges when coupled with a mini-cultivator are available. Each attachment is capable of forming different forms and sizes of ridges. You should therefore select the right attachment for the vegetable crop you wish to cultivate.

Optional attachments

You may need to attach separate optional attachments to create ridges, engage in tending work, or engage in special cultivation work.
